PRADA FALL-WINTER 2021 SHOW
Prada’s Autumn / Winter 2021 collection, designed by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, is inspired by change and transformation, revealing new opportunities. Reflecting a fusion between different themes and purposes and the nature of humanity, the new collection represents the belief in the fact that men and women carry masculinity and femininity within themselves. Exploring the gap that exists between traditional polar contrasts, the Autumn Winter 2021 collection is transformed into the point between simplicity and complexity, elegance and practicality, limitation and release.
Transcending the boundaries of common points, the freedom of the body, the clothes dressed in stretch jacquard weave, is reflected by the energy depicted through representations for exposed skin. The emphasis on the body serves to reveal the action, the effectiveness, which is further emphasized in the clothes with softness and natural comfort. The attitude of the movement, pleated and shirred moving dresses… Special designs paradoxically express a universal classicism and décolletées allow unrestricted gaze to the body. Thus, physical freedom reflects an ideology.
Clothes are transformed from one purpose to another – embellishments can become functional pragmatic silhouettes and decorative. Expressing the change between basic languages, this collection offers evening dresses to ‘utility’ overalls and custom sewn coats in bold color palettes. Transforming and changing between contrasting themes, this collection forms the basis of new outerwear styles. Clothes designed with nylon, jacquard, faux fur and sequins continue the closing movement as symbolic features of protection and elegance.
Materialism that permits contradiction is re-contextualized with traditionally gendered fabrics. Structural, economic and juxtaposed tension, the embroidery depicts a multi-layered environment. Against an original soundscape created by Richie Hawtin ‘Plastikman’, Rem Koolhaas and AMO’s faux fur and marble spaces move between spaces within an interior landscape. The connotation of these persistent combinations challenges the distinction between purpose and intention. Prada’s Autumn Winter 2021 designs are concrete expressions of the differences combined to represent freedom.
